JACK SONENBERG (NYC, born 1925), Color Woodblock Print, Abstract Expressionist Composition circa 1950’s; titled, numbered and signed “Sounding IV—12/200—J. Sonenberg” in pencil, lower left margin. Image size 23 ½ inches x 15 ½ inches on sheet 24 ¾ inches x 17 3/8 inches; framed in wood under glass 29 inches x 20 ¾ inches overall. NOTE: The basic block for the background was not a perfect rectangle, but was irregular at top and bottom. This can be seen in the photos, and is not a defect, but rather the artist’s format intent. Additional block were used for different colors and overlay one another to create the final image. The print is not laid down or glued to the mat or backing, but is freely suspended from two tape hinges at the top. The backing board is age toned, but the print was shielded from the backing by a large sheet of hard paper, and the print has virtually no toning, staining or mat burn.
